百姓间出现争执官司时 ， 陈寔判决公正 ， 告诉百姓道理的曲直 ， 百姓回去后没有埋怨的 。

陈寔暗中发现了 ， 就起来整顿衣服 ， 让子孙聚拢过来 ， 正色训诫他们说：“人不可以不自我勉励 。不善良的人不一定本性是坏的 ， 坏习惯往往由不注重品性修养而形成 ， 于是到了这样的地步 。梁上君子就是这样的人！”
